CalendarFor the 2020 edition of The Art Of Tonight, I created illustrations for a series of gig posters featuring artists and bands who performed at Berlin’s Velodrom and Max-Schmeling-Halle during 2019.
The project was developed in collaboration through Spiegelsaal and published as a promotional calendar by Velomax.
Briefing
After previous editions focused on photography and behind-the-scenes perspectives, the concept for 2020 shifted towards illustration.
The idea, initiated by art director Alex Labes, was to reinterpret selected concerts through a series of visually distinctive gig posters and to translate the atmosphere of live music into collectible imagery.
Execution
Originally planned as a 12-month calendar, the project eventually resulted in 17 individual poster motifs, as some tours were postponed or canceled.
The illustrations were adapted for calendar layouts and promotional applications, combining the aesthetics of concert poster art with editorial design.
Visual Approach
Influenced by music culture, pop iconography and classic gig poster aesthetics, each illustration was created to capture the identity and energy of the respective artist.
The aim was to create a diverse yet coherent visual series that celebrates the experience of live music through illustration.
